To support the wider uptake of lake restoration measures, FutureLakes works with three Associated Regions (ARs) across Europe. These regions serve as replication areas, where knowledge, tools and lessons learned from the FutureLakes demonstration basins are applied to new contexts.
The aim is to translate project knowledge into practical Piloting and Upscaling plans that can guide restoration activities at the regional level. By applying the FutureLakes upscaling methodology, the project will help identify suitable restoration measures, assess local opportunities and challenges, and support regions in planning effective lake restoration strategies.
A key element of this process is capacity building and knowledge exchange with regional stakeholders. In each Associated Region, FutureLakes will establish a Community of Practice that brings together three main groups:
Through workshops, exchanges, and collaborative planning activities, these Communities of Practice will support the co-development of regional Piloting and Upscaling plans. This process enables regions to adapt restoration approaches to their local environmental conditions, governance structures, and societal priorities.
