Poor public engagement has been identified among the key barriers in effective restoration by the World Water Quality Alliance (WWQA) Global Survey of Lake Restoration Practitioners and engagement with stakeholders has been stressed as a key factor decisive for the success of restoration projects.
FutureLakes showcases innovative approaches to engaging stakeholders and mobilizing citizens to support sustainable lake management. Dynamic dialogue platforms allow stakeholders to ask critical questions, exchange knowledge, and co-create solutions, strengthening governance. Local communities, schools and volunteers contribute through citizen science, monitoring and participatory activities, helping to build shared ownership and long-term support for lake restoration and climate resilience.
