FutureLakes Delphi Survey: Join the Dialogue on Financing Lake Restoration
FutureLakes is inviting experts to contribute to a new Delphi survey on financing solutions for lake protection and restoration, aimed at unlocking the resources needed to scale up action across Europe.
One of the key challenges facing lake restoration is not a lack of innovation, but the difficulty of moving beyond pilot projects. Short-term funding, fragmented governance, and limited coordination continue to slow progress—despite the growing urgency to meet EU and national targets on water quality, biodiversity, and climate adaptation.
This Delphi study focuses specifically on addressing these barriers. It explores how financial resources for large-scale lake restoration can be better mobilised, aligned, and sustained, positioning restoration as a core component of Europe’s wider restoration economy.
Participants will be invited to share their perspectives on:
- How to overcome financial and institutional constraints
- Which funding mechanisms and investment models could be adapted to lake restoration
- How to better coordinate stakeholders and align public and private funding
- What lessons can be drawn from related sectors such as forestry, freshwater management, and land restoration
The survey is open to a broad range of stakeholders, including scientists, policymakers, finance professionals, NGOs, and practitioners. Contributions will directly support the development of actionable, cross-sectoral solutions to accelerate lake restoration across Europe.
The study will run over two Delphi rounds via the Welphi platform, with each round taking approximately 25–30 minutes to complete. The first round is open until 29 June 2026.
Your input is invaluable—there are no right or wrong answers, and all perspectives are welcome.
